Life as a Freelancer

As a part-time freelancer, I often find myself spending countless hours searching for possible jobs and gigs. My favorite is Craigslist. It's simple to use and read. I have gotten more responses from this than any other. To me, each click reprsents a possibility. Each e-mail is an opportunity. Each response is a connection. As expected, I have encountered more rejections than acceptances so far. But I have managed to turn some rejections into opportunities.

This is my first year as a freelancer. I do not have the courage to committ myself full time yet. But I think I have done a decent job building up my resume so far. There is still a long way to go.

What about you? How would you describe your life as a freelancer?

I would describe freelancing as very up and down. Last year I taught full time and had 4 book contracts. This year I took a year off from teaching to work on some writing projects I wanted to persue. So far this year I don't have any "contracts" but I'm having a pretty good time! I'm still learning how to look for--and find--freelance writing jobs. I'm also sending out proposals for book ideas and waiting (and waiting) to hear back from publishers.
